A terrifying act of violence unfolded on Sunday in Boulder, Colorado, when a 45-year-old man, later identified as Mohamed Sabry Soliman, unleashed a brutal attack on a pro-Israel demonstration. The assailant, armed with a makeshift flamethrower, hurled an incendiary device at the crowd while shouting “Free Palestine,” injuring eight people, some with severe burns.

The attack took place in the Pearl Street pedestrian mall, a popular area known for its vibrant atmosphere and bustling businesses. The incident occurred during a peaceful “Run For Their Lives” event organized to raise awareness about Israeli hostages still being held in Gaza. The victims, who ranged in age from 52 to 88, were quickly taken to nearby hospitals, with one victim reported to be in critical condition.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with people desperately trying to put out flames and help those who had been set on fire. The suspect initially fled the scene but was later apprehended by law enforcement without resistance. Soliman, who was also injured during the attack, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The FBI has classified the incident as an act of terrorism, with officials indicating that it was “ideologically motivated violence.” The attack has reignited concerns over the rising wave of violence targeting Jewish communities and their supporters in the United States. The timing of the assault was particularly chilling, occurring on the eve of Shavuot, a significant Jewish holiday.

The Boulder Police Department responded swiftly to the situation, evacuating parts of the mall and ensuring the safety of the public. Although initial reports did not immediately label the attack as terrorism, the FBI’s involvement and the nature of the crime have led officials to treat it as a targeted act of terror.

Authorities are working together to investigate the incident, and the Justice Department has condemned the attack as a “needless act of violence.” The investigation continues as law enforcement looks into Soliman’s motives and whether he acted alone.

This disturbing incident follows a series of violent events targeting Jewish individuals and institutions in the U.S., including the recent shooting of two Israeli embassy staffers in Washington, D.C. The attack in Boulder has left the local community shaken, but it has also sparked an outpouring of support from individuals and organizations across the country who are standing in solidarity with the victims and their families.
