In what could be a game-changing moment for WWE fans, rumors are swirling that Cody Rhodes is allegedly set to pin John Cena at the upcoming Money in the Bank Premium Live Event. The surprising storyline has taken a sharp turn from championship dreams to a personal grudge match, leaving the WWE Universe buzzing with anticipation.

The drama kicked off at Saturday Night’s Main Event when The American Nightmare made an electrifying return to the ring. Cody Rhodes blindsided John Cena with his signature Cross Rhodes maneuver after Cena had interfered in Jey Uso’s match against Logan Paul—costing Uso the win. Rhodes’ unexpected move not only shocked Cena but also reignited fan excitement across the board.

As a result, Rhodes challenged Cena and Paul to a tag team match at Money in the Bank, teaming up with the recently wronged Jey Uso. While many expected the son of the late WWE legend Dusty Rhodes to immediately pursue a singles title shot, this curveball suggests a bigger plan may be in motion.

According to wrestling analyst Sam Roberts, WWE may have intentionally crafted this tag team match as a calculated buildup toward Rhodes pinning Cena. Speaking on his podcast, Roberts speculated, “The reason to have this tag team match is because Cody Rhodes can pin John Cena. That’s exactly what should happen.”

However, not all insiders are convinced this move favors Rhodes. Former WWE writer Vince Russo, on The Coach and Bro Show, argued the decision “buries” The American Nightmare, claiming WWE’s creative team has no major storyline for him until December. “They’ve got Cena till December,” Russo said. “They’ve got nothing. So the tag team match… it buys them another month, even though it buries Cody.”

The American Nightmare’s journey is no stranger to obstacles. He once reinvented himself on the independent circuit, proving his mettle outside of WWE’s mainstream spotlight. Recalling his 2018 match where he famously stole the show and claimed the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, Rhodes has consistently shown he can thrive against the odds—even when the script seems stacked against him.

Whether WWE is building towards a dramatic passing of the torch or simply stalling for a future mega-match, one thing is certain—if Cody Rhodes pins John Cena at Money in the Bank, it will send shockwaves through the wrestling world and potentially redefine his trajectory in WWE heading into the latter half of 2025.

Fans can only wait with bated breath to see if The American Nightmare will finally cement his legacy with one of the most shocking victories in recent WWE history.
