Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness part ways after 27 years as emotional statements turn private pain into public heartbreak.

What was once one of Hollywood’s most beloved marriages is now unraveling in the public eye—and Hugh Jackman is said to be “heartbroken” following a powerful and deeply emotional statement by his estranged wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, that many believe was aimed at him.

After 27 years of marriage, Furness officially filed for divorce last week in a New York court, and shortly after, she released a stirring message to the public, speaking of a “traumatic journey of betrayal.” Though her words never directly named Jackman, insiders say the meaning was painfully clear—and it left the 56-year-old actor reeling.

“Her statement took Hugh and mutual friends by surprise because she wasn’t direct, but it clearly alluded to him,” a source told Us Weekly. “That added emotional weight to it. Hugh is heartbroken but has no intention of clapping back. He loves and respects Deborra-Lee and always will.”

In her statement, Furness, 69, shared with the Daily Mail, she expressed compassion for others who have suffered heartbreak. “My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal. It’s a profound wound that cuts deep,” she wrote. She also shared a message of spiritual resilience, saying, “Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose.”

The couple, who share two adopted children—Oscar, 25, and Ava, 19—announced their separation in September 2023, initially describing it as a parting “with love and kindness.” But recent developments, including Furness’ statement and reports of a $387 million divorce settlement with a “handsome spousal support payment,” suggest the split may be more emotionally complex than it first appeared.

Despite the pain, Jackman is reportedly choosing peace. Sources close to the X-Men actor say he won’t release a counter statement and wants to protect the dignity of their decades-long relationship. “Hugh will not allow it to get ugly,” the source said.

Adding further insight, radio host and Jackman’s close friend Gus Worland spoke on 2GB’s Ben Fordham Live, revealing, “No one wants anyone to go through what [Hugh] is, and he’s doing it publicly. But he’s holding up. I was in New York with him last month and he’s moving on.”

Since their split, it was quietly confirmed that Jackman has been romantically linked to his Music Man co-star Sutton Foster, with the pair seen kissing publicly earlier this year.

Still, those who know the couple hope time will soften the wounds. “They were together for 30 years,” Worland added. “They raised a family. I hope they both find happiness in the next chapter.”
