The Ford F-Series leads the pack once again as America's favorite vehicle, with hybrids like the Honda CR-V gaining serious ground

As the first quarter of 2025 wraps up, the auto industry is revealing some clear winners in what’s shaping up to be another unpredictable year for car sales. Even with looming import tariffs and economic headwinds, Americans showed strong appetite for powerful pickups and efficient hybrids, with sales surging across a few familiar nameplates.

Ford F series

At the top of the leaderboard, Ford’s legendary F-series lineup continues its reign as the king of American roads. With a massive 183,202 units sold, this iconic range of light- and heavy-duty trucks posted a 26 percent surge in sales compared to last year. Interestingly, this figure does not include the all-electric F-150 Lightning, which moved an additional 7187 units separately. The success of the F-series proves that Ford’s grip on the pickup market remains unshaken.

Chevrolet Silverado

Sliding into second place is the Chevrolet Silverado, with a combined total of 125,298 units sold. While its light-duty models dipped by 8 percent, the heavy-duty Silverado trucks gained traction with a 12 percent boost. Notably, the Silverado EV is also picking up speed with 2382 units sold, though these are excluded from the main tally.

In the SUV arena, Toyota’s RAV4 remains America’s favorite compact SUV, clocking in at 115,402 units despite an 8 percent year-over-year decline. The fifth-generation RAV4, on sale since 2019, is clearly still resonating with buyers, though anticipation is building for its next-gen release, expected to debut later this year for the 2026 model year.

Honda’s CR-V, often considered the RAV4’s fiercest rival, landed fourth on the list with 103,325 units sold — a strong 9 percent increase from 2024. A huge part of that growth is being attributed to the CR-V Hybrid, which now makes up more than half of all CR-V sales. Honda’s hybrid strategy appears to be paying off in a big way, particularly with eco-conscious families.

Rounding out the top five is the Ram pickup series, which posted 78,848 sales. While still a strong contender, sales of the Ram 1500 fell by 11 percent, pulling the brand slightly behind competitors like Ford and Chevy. Nonetheless, the Ram HD models continue to hold their own in a tough truck segment.

These rankings give a clear picture of where American automotive tastes are headed in 2025: powerful pickups are still leading, but hybrid SUVs are rapidly rising, reshaping the battlefield for automakers. With tariffs expected to influence pricing and supply chains in the months ahead, the next quarter may offer even more surprises.
