Circle Internet Group, the financial technology firm behind the USDC stablecoin, is officially heading to Wall Street. But the structure of its initial public offering (IPO) is turning heads across financial circles for an unusual reason: most of the shares being sold aren’t coming from the company itself.
In its updated prospectus filed Tuesday, Circle revealed it will offer 24 million Class A shares in total, with only 9.6 million issued by the company and the remaining 14.4 million — a full 60% — coming from existing stakeholders, including co-founders, executives, and venture investors. This insider-heavy approach is rare in modern tech IPOs and closely resembles Facebook’s 2012 debut, where 57% of shares sold were from insiders.
Circle is seeking to raise as much as $624 million, with a proposed valuation of $6.7 billion. If priced at the top of its $24–$26 range, the firm could net $240 million while insiders could collectively receive around $375 million. Among the sellers are CEO Jeremy Allaire, who is offering 8% of his stake, and co-founder Sean Neville, shedding 11%. Prominent VC firms including Accel, General Catalyst, and IDG Capital are each offloading about 10% of their holdings.
Despite the heavy selling, analysts aren’t overly alarmed. “Private investors are desperate for exits,” said Lise Buyer, founder of IPO consultancy Class V Group. “But the big guys are holding enough so they still have skin in the game.” The current market climate, shaped by rising interest rates and investor caution, has created a liquidity crunch for venture capital firms — a problem this IPO structure is trying to solve.
This isn’t Circle’s first attempt to go public. The company initially pursued a SPAC merger in 2021 at a $4.5 billion valuation, which ballooned to $9 billion before the deal was scrapped in late 2022 due to regulatory uncertainty. Now, with financials boasting $156 million in net income and $285 million in adjusted EBITDA from $1.7 billion in revenue, Circle is banking on investor confidence to succeed where it previously stumbled.
Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest has expressed interest in purchasing up to $150 million worth of shares — a strong signal of institutional belief in Circle’s long-term potential. With $60 billion in USDC currently in circulation and plans to trade under the ticker “CRCL” on the NYSE, the firm is positioning itself as a central force in the future of digital finance.
Joint lead book-runners for the offering include JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, and Citigroup. The company has also granted underwriters a 30-day option to purchase an additional 3.6 million shares.
While the IPO may raise concerns about insider confidence, it also speaks to broader challenges across the tech and crypto investment landscape. Exit activity for U.S. venture capital firms rose by nearly 35% last year after hitting a decade low in 2023. For Circle, going public now is not just a capital-raising event — it’s a long-awaited chance to lead the next era of regulated, scalable digital currency infrastructure.

When OpenAI unveiled its new social media app Sora, it promised a bold new way to experience AI-generated video. What early users received, however, feels more like a nightmarish fever dream starring none other than Sam Altman himself.
Within hours of launch, the invite-only app was overrun with uncanny deepfakes of the OpenAI CEO. In one viral clip, Altman appears inside a factory farm packed with pink pigs, each pen equipped with a smartphone streaming vertical videos. Staring directly at the camera, the AI-generated Altman asks chillingly: “Are my piggies enjoying their slop?”

The bizarre trend didn’t stop there. Users generated videos of “Altman” pouring Starbucks lattes for Pikachu and Eric Cartman, yelling at customers behind a McDonald’s counter, or even running away from police after stealing Nvidia GPUs from a Target store.
The app itself cheekily acknowledges the chaos. In some clips, Altman’s AI double announces, “This content may violate our guardrails concerning third-party likeness,” before bursting into hysterical laughter — as if mocking the very warnings the app is designed to enforce.

Copyright chaos on display
Sora is already under fire for how it handles copyright. Unlike most platforms where creators must opt in to allow their content to be used, OpenAI has flipped the model: copyright holders must opt out to prevent their works from appearing. Legal experts say this raises troubling questions, especially when videos depict characters like Naruto, Mario, or even Pikachu performing adult or absurd actions.
“People are pushing Sora’s boundaries just to see how far it will go,” one user posted on X, pointing to clips of Mario smoking weed or Pikachu performing ASMR.
Why Sora feels different
What sets Sora apart from other AI apps, including the Meta AI feed, is the realism. OpenAI has fine-tuned its video generator to obey the laws of physics more convincingly, making scenes look disturbingly authentic. The more convincing these deepfakes become, the greater the risk they’ll be used for misinformation, bullying, or worse.
Sora is, at its core, a deepfake generator with social features. Upon joining, users are prompted to create a “cameo” by recording biometric data — turning their heads, reading numbers aloud, and effectively handing the app a digital replica of their likeness. Users can then choose who’s allowed to generate content with their cameo: “only me,” “people I approve,” “mutuals,” or “everyone.”
A glimpse into the future?
The frenzy around Altman deepfakes highlights both the allure and the dangers of this technology. On one hand, it showcases Sora’s jaw-dropping realism and creative potential. On the other, it raises urgent ethical questions: What happens when hyper-realistic AI versions of public figures — or private individuals — flood the internet without consent?
For now, Sora is invite-only, but if this is the preview, the public launch could be even more chaotic. Whether it becomes the next TikTok of AI or collapses under controversy, one thing is certain: Sam Altman will never look at a Target store the same way again.
