Who is Mel Owens The Golden Bachelor lead facing backlash for comments about women over…
Former NFL player Mel Owens stars as the new Golden Bachelor at 66, but his past remarks about women’s ages and appearance have stirred controversy ahead of Season 2.
Bachelor Nation is gearing up for the premiere of The Golden Bachelor Season 2, but this time the spotlight is already clouded with controversy. The latest leading man, Mel Owens, a 66-year-old former NFL linebacker turned lawyer, will make his debut on ABC on Wednesday, September 25, at 8 p.m. ET.
Owens follows in the footsteps of Gerry Turner, the first Golden Bachelor in 2023, and Joan Vassos, who starred in the first Golden Bachelorette spinoff in 2024. While the franchise’s expansion into senior dating has been praised as refreshing and heartfelt, Owens has faced backlash for comments about age and appearance that left many questioning whether he was the right fit to front the series.

Who is Mel Owens?
Born and raised in Detroit, Owens played for the Los Angeles Rams from 1981 to 1989 before retiring from the NFL. He went on to earn a law degree and now practices as a sports lawyer in Orange County, California, specializing in workers’ compensation cases.
He was married to Fabiana Pimentel from 2002 until 2020, and the couple share two sons, Lucas, 20, and Andre, 18. Owens has described Fabiana as his “first love,” but after their divorce, he has been ready to look for a new chapter — one that led him, unexpectedly, to The Golden Bachelor.
How did he join The Golden Bachelor?
Owens wasn’t a Bachelor Nation fan before signing on. In fact, he says it was a friend who encouraged him to apply. “It’s this fortuitous other route. It’s not something I would have done entirely on my own,” he told USA Today.

The controversy
In June, Owens sparked outrage when he appeared on the University of Michigan’s MGoBlue podcast. Asked about his dating preferences, he replied candidly:
“They ask me, ‘What’s your preference?’ So I just said 45 to 60, just being honest. And then we had lunch with the executive producer. I said, ‘You know, if they’re 60 or over, I’m cutting them.’”
Owens also made remarks about his ideal partner’s physical traits, saying he preferred women who were fit and without “artificial hips and wigs.”
The comments were slammed as ageist and insensitive, particularly given that most of the franchise’s contestants so far have been in their 60s and 70s.

His apology
Owens has since walked back his statements. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, he admitted: “The comments I made were unfair and insensitive, but I apologized to them collectively. Looking back on it, it was wrong to say, and I shouldn’t have said it.”
In an interview with Glamour in August, he revealed that he addressed the controversy directly with the women competing for his heart. “When I first walked in, I addressed it. I apologized to them. I said, ‘It was unfair, insensitive. I want to earn it back. Just give me the chance.’”
According to Owens, many contestants accepted his apology during their one-on-one moments.

Will the controversy affect his season?
Despite calls from some Bachelor Nation fans to replace him, ABC has stuck by Owens. He insists he never considered stepping down: “I never contemplated stepping away. Never did,” he told USA Today.
Owens hopes viewers will tune in with an open mind, saying: “You have to be earnest in your work to get the trust back… Hopefully the show will show that the women in their golden years are doing amazing things. It’s inspirational.”
What to expect this season
Owens will meet 23 women competing for his affection, with producers teasing emotional love stories, unexpected drama, and plenty of tearful confessions. With Joan Vassos proving last year that the Golden spinoffs can deliver genuine romance, all eyes will be on Owens to see if he can overcome the early backlash and find lasting love.
Whether Owens becomes a redemption story or remains a controversial choice, The Golden Bachelor Season 2 promises to keep Bachelor Nation talking.

“‘Michael’ Sequel Buzz Grows… But Will Fans Celebrate While Critics Push Back Again?”
As talks of a follow-up to the Michael Jackson biopic gain momentum, the long-standing divide between audience love and critical skepticism could deepen.
The story of a global icon is rarely simple—and neither is the reaction to it. As anticipation builds around Michael, the upcoming biographical film based on the life of Michael Jackson, industry insiders are already whispering about something bigger: a potential sequel.
But here’s the twist—while fans are gearing up for more, critics may not be as enthusiastic.
A Film Already Surrounded by Expectations
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and backed by Lionsgate, Michael is one of the most talked-about biopics in recent years. The film promises an intimate portrayal of the King of Pop, diving deep into both his groundbreaking achievements and the controversies that followed him throughout his life.
Biopics, especially those centered on larger-than-life figures like Michael Jackson, often walk a tightrope. They must balance storytelling with truth, admiration with accountability—and that’s where the divide begins.
Fans vs Critics: A Familiar Battle
If early reactions and industry chatter are anything to go by, Michael could spark the kind of polarized response seen in previous music biopics. Fans, deeply loyal to Jackson’s legacy, are expected to embrace the film wholeheartedly, celebrating its tribute to his artistry.

Critics, however, may take a more measured—or even skeptical—approach.
This isn’t new. Films like Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis saw similar divides, where audience scores soared while critics raised questions about narrative choices and omissions.
The difference with Michael? The stakes feel higher.
Why a Sequel Is Already Being Discussed
The idea of a sequel suggests confidence—either in the film’s storytelling depth or its commercial potential. Sources close to the production indicate that Jackson’s life is simply too vast to be contained in a single film.
From his early days with the Jackson 5 to his record-breaking solo career, and later years marked by intense media scrutiny, there’s no shortage of material.
A sequel could allow filmmakers to explore these phases more thoroughly—but it also opens the door to renewed debate.
The Legacy Question
At the heart of the conversation lies a sensitive issue: how to portray a figure as complex as Michael Jackson without alienating audiences.
For fans, the focus is often on his unmatched contributions to music, dance, and global pop culture. For critics, the narrative must also address the controversies that shaped public perception.
Striking that balance is no easy task—and it’s likely to become even more challenging in a sequel.
Hollywood’s Growing Trend of Expanding Biopics
The potential sequel to Michael also reflects a broader shift in Hollywood. Studios are increasingly treating biopics as franchises rather than standalone films.

With streaming platforms and global audiences demanding more content, the idea of extending a story across multiple films makes business sense. It allows for deeper storytelling while maximizing audience engagement.
But it also raises a critical question: does stretching a real-life story enhance it—or dilute its impact?
What Lies Ahead
As Lionsgate continues to build momentum around Michael, the conversation is already evolving beyond the film itself. It’s about legacy, storytelling, and the ever-present tension between public perception and artistic interpretation.
If a sequel does move forward, it won’t just be another chapter in a film series—it will be another chapter in the ongoing cultural conversation surrounding one of the most influential artists of all time.
And perhaps that’s what makes this story so compelling.
Because in the world of Michael, the music may unite—but the narrative will always divide.

“‘The Four Seasons’ Returns… Tina Fey Leads a Bittersweet Italian Escape That Hides More Than Just Grief”
Season two’s trailer teases laughter, loss, and complicated friendships as the story shifts to a scenic yet emotionally charged Italian getaway.
There’s something about vacations that promises healing—but what happens when grief tags along? That’s the emotional question at the heart of the newly released trailer for season two of The Four Seasons, starring the ever-sharp Tina Fey.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Italy, the upcoming season takes a group of longtime friends on what appears to be a picturesque holiday. But beneath the laughter, wine, and sun-drenched views lies something heavier—loss, unresolved emotions, and the quiet tension that only close friendships can تحمل.
A Vacation That’s More Than Just an Escape
The trailer wastes no time in establishing its tone. While the first season balanced humor with the complexities of adult relationships, season two leans deeper into emotional territory.
Tina Fey returns not just as a performer but as a creative force, bringing her signature wit to a story that feels both intimate and universally relatable. Her character, along with her circle of friends, is navigating the aftermath of a personal loss—one that reshapes how they see each other and themselves.

Italy, with its timeless charm, becomes more than a setting—it’s almost a character in itself. From coastal villas to quiet countryside moments, the location mirrors the group’s emotional journey: beautiful on the surface, but layered with complexity.
Grief, Friendship, and the Space Between
What makes The Four Seasons stand out is its refusal to simplify human relationships. The new season explores how grief doesn’t just affect individuals—it ripples through friendships.
Moments in the trailer hint at unresolved conflicts, awkward silences, and the kind of conversations people often avoid. Yet, there’s also humor—subtle, sharp, and very much in line with Fey’s storytelling style.
It’s this balance that has defined her career, from 30 Rock to her work behind the scenes as a writer and producer.
A Cast That Feels Like Real Life
While Tina Fey remains the central figure, the ensemble cast continues to play a crucial role in shaping the narrative. Each character brings a different perspective on loss—denial, acceptance, humor, and even quiet resentment.
This layered storytelling is what gives the series its emotional weight. It’s not just about what the characters say—but what they don’t.
Why Season Two Feels More Personal
Television has increasingly leaned into stories that reflect real-life complexities, and The Four Seasons is no exception. The shift toward a more introspective narrative in season two aligns with a broader trend in streaming content—audiences are craving authenticity over spectacle.
Platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have seen success with shows that explore emotional depth, and this series appears ready to follow that path.
But what sets it apart is its ability to make heavy themes feel approachable. It doesn’t overwhelm—it invites.

Italy: The Perfect Backdrop for Healing… or Confrontation
There’s a reason filmmakers often turn to Italy when telling stories about transformation. The country’s rich culture, slow pace, and natural beauty create an environment where characters are forced to pause—and reflect.
In The Four Seasons, that pause becomes a turning point.
Whether it leads to healing or deeper conflict remains to be seen, but the trailer makes one thing clear: this isn’t just a vacation story. It’s about what happens when people can no longer avoid the truths they’ve been carrying.
What to Expect
As anticipation builds, fans can expect a season that feels more grounded, more emotional, and perhaps more daring in its storytelling. The humor is still there—but it’s quieter, more reflective.
And maybe that’s the point.
Because sometimes, the most powerful stories aren’t the loudest ones—they’re the ones that linger.

“Cannes 2026 Jury Revealed… Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao & Stellan Skarsgård Join Park Chan-wook in a Power-Packed Lineup”
A global mix of cinematic voices heads to the French Riviera, promising bold choices and intense debates at this year’s prestigious film festival.
The stage is set, the spotlight is ready, and now—the jury is official.
The world-renowned Cannes Film Festival has unveiled a striking jury lineup for its upcoming edition, bringing together some of the most respected names in global cinema. Leading the panel is acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, joined by an eclectic mix of talent including Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao, and Stellan Skarsgård.
It’s the kind of lineup that doesn’t just judge films—it shapes conversations.
A Jury That Reflects Global Cinema
Each member brings a distinct cinematic voice. Park Chan-wook, known for visually stunning and emotionally intense films like Oldboy, is no stranger to Cannes. His appointment as jury president signals a year that may favor bold storytelling and artistic risk-taking.
Alongside him, Chloé Zhao—the Oscar-winning director behind Nomadland—adds a contemplative, humanistic lens to the panel. Her work often explores quiet resilience and overlooked lives, offering a contrast to more traditional cinematic narratives.

Then there’s Demi Moore, a Hollywood icon whose career spans decades. Her presence on the jury brings both star power and industry experience, particularly in understanding mainstream appeal versus artistic depth.
Meanwhile, Stellan Skarsgård—a veteran of both indie cinema and global blockbusters—adds a grounded, actor’s perspective to the decision-making process.
Why This Lineup Matters
Cannes has always prided itself on being more than just a film festival—it’s a cultural barometer. The jury’s composition often hints at the kind of films that will be celebrated.
With such a diverse group, expectations are high for a selection that balances global storytelling with bold experimentation. Industry insiders are already predicting intense deliberations, especially given the contrasting styles and sensibilities of the jury members.
The Weight of the Palme d’Or
At the heart of the festival lies the coveted Palme d’Or, one of the most prestigious awards in cinema. Deciding its winner is no easy task—it requires balancing artistic merit, cultural relevance, and emotional impact.
With Park Chan-wook at the helm, many expect a jury that leans toward films that challenge audiences rather than simply entertain them.
But with voices like Demi Moore and Stellan Skarsgård in the room, the final decisions could reflect a broader spectrum of cinematic appreciation.

Cannes in a Changing Film Landscape
The announcement also comes at a time when the global film industry is undergoing rapid transformation. Streaming platforms, evolving audience preferences, and the rise of international cinema have all reshaped how films are made and consumed.
Yet, the Cannes Film Festival remains a cornerstone of cinematic excellence—a place where artistry takes center stage.
This year’s jury, with its mix of Hollywood influence and international perspective, embodies that evolution.
What to Expect This Year
As filmmakers from around the world prepare to showcase their work, all eyes will be on the jury. Will they reward bold experimentation? Emotional storytelling? Or something entirely unexpected?
If history is any guide, Cannes rarely plays it safe.
And with a lineup this dynamic, the decisions made this year could spark conversations long after the festival ends.
Because at Cannes, it’s never just about who wins—it’s about what those choices say about the future of cinema.
