Mel Tracina finally breaks silence on Big Brother Uncut comeback — fans shocked by her ‘PG’ revelation
The new Big Brother Australia host Mel Tracina confirms that the adults-only version of the show isn’t returning — but promises the new 2025 season will bring back the golden 2000s vibe with live nominations and evictions.
Mel Tracina reveals truth about Big Brother Uncut comeback
After months of fan speculation, Mel Tracina has finally addressed the burning question that’s been floating across Australian reality TV circles — Is Big Brother Uncut making a comeback?
Sadly for nostalgia-driven fans, the answer is no.
The new Channel 10 host of Big Brother Australia confirmed that while the 2025 season is reviving many of the original show’s iconic elements, the adults-only version known as Big Brother Uncut or Big Brother Up Late will not be returning this year.
“This year there’s no return of Big Brother Up Late (or Uncut),” said Tracina. “We’re keeping it PG.”
This statement might crush the hopes of many Gen X and Millennial fans who fondly remember sneaking a peek at those infamous late-night episodes that turned Big Brother Uncut into pop-culture legend.

A nostalgic revival at Dreamworld
In a move that has already thrilled long-time viewers, the 2025 season has returned to its original filming location — Dreamworld in Queensland — the site of the show’s first eleven seasons from 2001 to 2014.
“The Big Brother house is synonymous with Dreamworld, so bringing the OG format to its OG location feels right,” Tracina told news.com.au.
The house isn’t the only thing making a comeback. The show is also reintroducing live nominations and live evictions, giving fans the raw, unpredictable energy that made the early 2000s versions so addictive.
Tracina, who’s known for her work with Nova Entertainment, shared her excitement about the show’s “back to basics” format.
“This year, we want viewers to feel that same anticipation — that thrill of not knowing what’s coming next,” she said.
Big Brother Uncut may be gone, but live streaming is in
While there won’t be an adults-only edition, fans won’t miss out on behind-the-scenes action. The 2025 season introduces 24/7 live streaming, allowing audiences to tune in anytime and watch their favorite housemates in real-time.

However, Tracina clarified that even this live feed will be carefully monitored.
“That will be moderated to make sure that everything we broadcast is up to broadcast standards,” she explained.
The announcement marks a clear shift in tone for Big Brother, aligning with Channel 10’s family-friendly branding while still promising plenty of drama, romance, and emotional tension inside the house.
A new batch of housemates to shake things up
Tracina also revealed that the housemates for the 2025 season have already been selected and are going through their final checks and approvals. The group is expected to enter the house on Sunday, November 9.
“What makes Big Brother so iconic is that you’re throwing into the house people that wouldn’t necessarily meet every day and wouldn’t hang out in each other’s circles,” she said.
The lineup includes a single mum, an ex-pro surfer, and even a couple of clean freaks, promising a dynamic mix of personalities — and likely some explosive drama.
Mel Tracina joins a legendary host lineup
The 2025 season also marks a new chapter in Big Brother’s long hosting history. Tracina becomes the fifth person to front the show, following in the footsteps of past hosts such as Gretel Killeen, Kyle Sandilands, Jackie O, and Sonia Kruger.
Although she hasn’t directly sought advice from her predecessors, Tracina mentioned that several former contestants and colleagues have reached out to support her.
“I work with Chrissie Swan, Nathan Morris from Nathan, Nat & Shaun on Nova Perth, and of course Ryan Fitzgerald (Fitzy from Nova Sydney). They’ve all said how much fun I’m going to have,” she shared.
“Everyone is saying just to enjoy it,” she added, smiling.
Big Brother’s cultural legacy lives on
From its early days on Network Ten to its later runs on Nine Network and Seven Network, Big Brother Australia has been a defining reality TV franchise that shaped a generation of viewers.
When Big Brother Uncut aired between 2001 and 2006, it pushed boundaries — and sometimes, controversy — showcasing raw, unfiltered human interactions that captivated late-night audiences.
Now, with the show heading back to its roots, fans are eager to see whether this revival will recapture that same lightning-in-a-bottle magic without the adult-rated edge.
For Mel Tracina, the focus is clear — authenticity, nostalgia, and fun.
“It’s all about returning to the heart of what made Big Brother iconic — real people, real emotions, and real reactions,” she said.
A trip down memory lane
Whether you’re a die-hard fan who remembers the legendary Bert and Patti Newton entering the house or a new viewer curious to see how Big Brother plays out in 2025, this season promises a dose of both nostalgia and freshness.
And while the “Uncut” edition may stay in the vaults of television history, the reimagined show could offer something even more meaningful — the return of human connection in an age of filters and performances.

‘Onwards and Sideways’ Unveils First Images of Laura Linney and Rhys Ifans’ Powerful New Drama
The emotional film follows two lives transformed by unexpected diagnoses and is set to make its world premiere at TIFF.
A moving new drama is set to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and its first official images are already drawing attention for their emotional depth.
Titled Onwards and Sideways, the film stars Laura Linney and Rhys Ifans as two individuals whose lives are transformed after receiving diagnoses of Parkinson’s disease. Rather than focusing solely on grief, the story promises to balance heartfelt moments with humor, resilience and hope.
Helming the project is acclaimed filmmaker John Madden, best known for directing the Academy Award-winning classic Shakespeare in Love. The screenplay comes from Paul Mayhew-Archer, a celebrated British writer whose own experiences with Parkinson’s have brought authenticity to the script.

According to the filmmakers, Onwards and Sideways is designed to explore how life can continue with meaning even after a difficult diagnosis. Instead of presenting a conventional medical drama, the film examines friendship, resilience, vulnerability and the unexpected connections that emerge during life’s most challenging moments.
Joining Linney and Ifans is an accomplished supporting cast featuring Monica Dolan and Rory Kinnear, both known for delivering nuanced performances across film, television and theatre.

The newly released images offer an early glimpse into the film’s intimate storytelling, capturing quiet moments between characters as they navigate uncertainty with compassion and humor. While the subject matter is undeniably serious, the visuals suggest a story that celebrates humanity rather than focusing exclusively on illness.
For Laura Linney, the project marks another emotionally rich role in a career filled with acclaimed performances in films and television. Rhys Ifans, meanwhile, continues to showcase his remarkable versatility by stepping into a character facing profound personal change.
With John Madden behind the camera, expectations are naturally high. His previous work has demonstrated a remarkable ability to combine emotional storytelling with memorable performances, making Onwards and Sideways one of the more anticipated premieres at this year’s festival.
As conversations surrounding Parkinson’s disease continue to grow globally, the film arrives with the potential to spark meaningful dialogue while reminding audiences that compassion, laughter and human connection remain powerful forces in the face of adversity.
Whether it emerges as an awards-season contender remains to be seen, but Onwards and Sideways is already positioning itself as one of the Toronto International Film Festival’s most emotionally compelling premieres.
