Skedaddle Arlo’s Emotional Race at Dapto Greyhounds Final Night After 89 Years
Mark Suttle’s pride, Skedaddle Arlo, aims for Group 1 Megastar glory in the last-ever Dapto race meeting.
For nearly nine decades, the Dapto Showground has been home to Thursday night thrills, unforgettable rivalries, and countless friendships forged over greyhound racing. Tonight, on September 11, 2025, that history reaches its final lap.
Among the thousands of fans returning for one last memory, local greyhound owner Mark Suttle will have more than nostalgia on his mind. His dog, Skedaddle Arlo, has qualified for the Group 1 Ladbrokes Megastar, the very last feature event ever to be run at Dapto.
“It feels like life coming full circle,” Suttle admitted. “I first came here as a kid with my mates, sitting through the twilight races. And tonight, I’ll be here again with friends, but this time with a runner in the Megastar. Win, lose, or draw, it means everything just to be part of this moment.”
From Twilight Races to Family Legacy
Suttle’s connection with Dapto stretches back decades. He recalls his first dog, appropriately named Offspring, who sparked his lifelong passion for greyhounds. Later, with his wife Tracie, he relied on legendary trainer Owen Makin and his wife Anne to prepare their dogs, enjoying modest success with runners like Spice Magic and Mad Magic.
The Suttles eventually moved to the Shoalhaven region, where they began training and breeding greyhounds themselves. Skedaddle Arlo, who won his Megastar heat just a week ago, is particularly special. He was bred and reared on their property, whelped by Tracie herself.
“Our daughter Casey came up with the ‘Skedaddle’ name,” Suttle explained with a smile. “She wanted something that captured quickness. Most of the obvious names were taken, so she landed on Skedaddle. We all loved it, and it’s stuck.”

The End of an Era for Dapto
The Dapto club first opened on February 25, 1937, and quickly established itself as one of Australia’s iconic greyhound venues. In 1939, it became the first club in New South Wales to introduce night racing under lights—an innovation that transformed the sport.
Over the years, Dapto produced memorable milestones:
- The world’s richest race, the $100,000 Super Coat Classic in 1991.
- The first NSW track to switch from grass to loam in 1992.
- Appearances by superstar Flying Amy, who lit up the famous four-dog Shoot Out.
- Media attention in the late 1990s when rugby league star Terry Hill brought the Channel 9 Footy Show cameras to Dapto.
- Charity races like the rise of greyhound Nads, trained by Greg Wynn, which raised over $250,000 for the Children’s Hospital.
In 1999, the club hosted the inaugural Puppy Auction—another first of its kind—with Electric Grace winning the race series final the following year.
The Rise of the Megastar
The Megastar itself began as an invitational in 2010, won by Mr Metz. By 2013, the event had achieved Group 1 status, with Peter Rocket securing victory. Since then, it has become the pinnacle of Dapto’s racing calendar, attracting top trainers and dogs from across the country.
For Suttle, the chance to compete in the Megastar is a dream realized. “I’ve never won a Group race before, let alone a Group 1. To do it on Dapto’s final night would be unbelievable. But no matter the outcome, we’ll be proud just to be part of it.”

Memories and Legacy
Dapto’s legacy is not just about records and prizemoney. The Silver Collar, first introduced in 1963 by Betty and Max Pomeroy, remains one of the club’s most cherished traditions. Won by icons like Zoom Top, the race was still running as recently as last month, when Taormina claimed victory.
Officials expect a huge crowd tonight, with generations of fans returning to honor the track’s history. From its groundbreaking innovations to its community spirit, Dapto has left an indelible mark on greyhound racing.
One Last Night
For the Suttles, and for the greyhound community, tonight is not just another race meeting—it’s a farewell. It’s about remembering the roars of the crowd, the thrill of a close finish, and the friendships forged along the rails.
As Skedaddle Arlo lines up for the Megastar, he carries more than just the hopes of his owners. He symbolizes the closing chapter of Dapto’s extraordinary story.
“One last night. One last race meeting. One last Megastar,” Suttle reflected. “That’s what makes it so special.”

India Spotted Him Before the World Did: How Ferran Torres’ Journey From Mumbai to World Cup Glory Came Full Circle…
Long before he became Spain’s FIFA World Cup 2026 final hero, Ferran Torres showcased his immense potential on Indian soil, making his title-winning moment even more special.
Football has a way of creating stories that come full circle, and Ferran Torres has written one of the most memorable chapters of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The forward etched his name into Spanish football history by scoring the decisive goal that handed Spain their World Cup crown. Yet, years before becoming the nation’s biggest hero, Torres had already left an impression thousands of miles away—in India.

While the global football community came to know Torres through his performances for Valencia CF, Manchester City, and later FC Barcelona, many Indian fans proudly remember seeing him before he became a household name.

Spain’s World Cup-winning campaign was built on tactical discipline under head coach Luis de la Fuente, with midfield general Rodri controlling games through possession and intelligent positioning. But when it mattered most, Torres provided the finishing touch that completed the team’s remarkable journey.

His success also highlights the growing importance of international youth tournaments. Events hosted in countries like India not only inspire local supporters but also offer fans the rare opportunity to witness future global superstars before they reach football’s grandest stage.

‘They Really Said That?’ Luis de la Fuente Reacts After Spain Stars Promise Tattoo If World Cup Dream Comes True…
Marc Cucurella’s light-hearted vow to tattoo Spain coach Luis de la Fuente’s face became one of the tournament’s most memorable off-field moments after the World Cup triumph.
Spain’s memorable FIFA World Cup 2026 triumph was filled with unforgettable performances on the pitch, but one of the tournament’s most entertaining stories unfolded away from the action. A playful promise made by Marc Cucurella regarding head coach Luis de la Fuente quickly became a talking point among football fans worldwide.
Before Spain lifted football’s biggest trophy, Cucurella jokingly declared that he would get a tattoo of his coach’s face if the team went on to win the World Cup. As Spain completed their historic title-winning campaign, the light-hearted promise resurfaced, drawing smiles from supporters and the media alike.
When asked about the unusual pledge, Luis de la Fuente responded with his trademark sense of humour. Rather than taking the promise seriously, the veteran coach laughed off the idea, saying there were probably “better things” for his players to tattoo than his face.

His reaction reflected the relaxed atmosphere that surrounded the Spanish camp throughout the tournament. While the team remained intensely focused during matches, players and coaching staff often displayed a close-knit bond that many believe played a crucial role in their success.
Spain’s World Cup victory was built on tactical discipline, relentless teamwork and midfield dominance led by Rodri. Yet moments like Cucurella’s tattoo promise highlighted another important ingredient behind the triumph—a dressing room united by trust, confidence and genuine camaraderie.

Luis de la Fuente has frequently spoken about creating a family-like environment within the national squad. That philosophy appeared to pay dividends as Spain navigated the pressures of the tournament while maintaining a positive spirit off the field.
For Cucurella, the playful commitment quickly became one of the most discussed viral moments surrounding Spain’s World Cup celebrations. Fans flooded social media with jokes, edited images and memes imagining what such a tattoo might look like, adding another layer of entertainment to the celebrations.
Whether the promise is ultimately fulfilled remains to be seen. However, the story has already secured its place among the lighter moments of the World Cup, reminding football fans that even in the biggest competitions, humour and strong relationships can play an important role.
As Spain celebrate their latest global success, Luis de la Fuente’s legacy extends beyond winning matches. He has built a squad that not only conquered the world through tactical excellence but also created memories that supporters will cherish long after the final whistle.

Spain’s World Cup Secret Wasn’t Just Goals: How One Midfield Masterplan Left Giants With No Escape…
Powered by Rodri’s unmatched control and a relentless tactical system, Spain proved that collective brilliance—not individual stardom—wins football’s biggest prize.
When the final whistle confirmed Spain as the champions of the FIFA World Cup 2026, celebrations erupted across the country. But beyond the goals, trophies and celebrations lay a story that defined the tournament—a system so disciplined that even the world’s biggest football stars struggled to find space.
Rather than relying on moments of individual magic, Spain built their triumph around structure, possession and relentless midfield dominance. At the heart of that blueprint stood Rodri, whose influence stretched far beyond the scoresheet.
The Spanish midfielder quietly became the engine of the team’s success. Throughout the tournament, Rodri ranked among the leaders in touches, completed passes and ball recoveries, constantly dictating the tempo while denying opponents any rhythm. Every attack seemed to flow through him, while every opposition move was met with calculated pressure.
Spain’s tactical discipline turned midfield into a battleground they rarely lost. Opponents found themselves chasing the ball for long periods, unable to build meaningful attacks as Spain controlled possession with remarkable composure. It was football based on patience rather than panic, precision instead of improvisation.

Head coach Luis de la Fuente deserves significant credit for shaping a squad that valued teamwork above individual glory. His philosophy ensured every player understood their role, creating a side that functioned as a single unit rather than a collection of stars.
While attacking players grabbed headlines with crucial goals, Spain’s defensive organisation and midfield control became the foundation of their championship run. The team pressed aggressively without losing shape, forcing rivals into mistakes before launching swift and intelligent attacks.

Football analysts have often described championships as being won in midfield, and Spain offered perhaps the clearest modern example. Their ability to dominate possession limited opponents’ opportunities, reducing even elite attacking sides to spectators for large phases of matches.
Rodri’s performances also reinforced his reputation as one of world football’s most complete midfielders. Whether breaking up attacks, distributing the ball with accuracy or controlling the pace of play, he delivered consistency in every knockout fixture.
Spain’s latest World Cup triumph may ultimately be remembered as a victory for tactical intelligence over superstar dependence. In an era where teams often revolve around one or two marquee names, Spain demonstrated that trust, discipline and collective execution remain football’s greatest weapons.
As celebrations continue, the champions have also delivered a lasting lesson to the rest of the football world: trophies are often won not by the loudest stars, but by the strongest systems operating quietly behind them.
