Wordle Players Struggle on 2XP Friday as Tricky Puzzle Leaves Many Guessing
Today’s Wordle answer was no cakewalk—but if you thought smart and guessed bold, you may have scored big 2XP Friday
Welcome to 2XP Friday, Wordle warriors—where the stakes are doubled and so are the nerves. June 6th’s Wordle (#1448) wasn’t the hardest of the week, but it definitely made seasoned players sweat. With competitive scoring on the line and points to win (or lose), today’s puzzle reminded everyone that strategy matters just as much as vocabulary.
So, what was today’s Wordle answer?
Drumroll… the word was EDIFY.
Not exactly a common pick in daily conversation, “edify” tripped up many with its obscure structure and mix of vowels. For those who took a few swings before landing the right guess—you’re not alone. The word begins with a vowel, ends in a “sometimes” vowel, and has no repeating letters—making it both slippery and satisfying once solved.
The hint offered: “To instruct or improve,” gave a gentle nudge in the right direction. Still, that didn’t make it easy for everyone. Some players went from safe starters like “CHAIR” to wildcard guesses like “SLOPE” and “DEIGN,” before finally stumbling upon the correct word.
For those playing Competitive Wordle, the pressure was even higher. The double-points Friday system means a wrong guess hurts twice as much—but a smart play can skyrocket your score. And let’s not forget Wordle Bot, the ever-smug virtual opponent. While the average player guessed the word in four to five attempts, the Bot nailed it in three, putting itself firmly in the leaderboard’s spotlight.
Wordle Scoring Refresher (Especially for 2XP Fridays):
- 1st try: 3 points
- 2nd try: 2 points
- 3rd try: 1 point
- 4th try: 0 points
- 5th try: -1 point
- 6th try: -2 points
- Miss: -3 points
- Bonus: +1 point for beating your opponent, -1 if you lose
- Fridays = Double all the above!
Beyond the gameplay, Wordle fans are often curious about word origins. Today’s word “edify” comes from the Latin aedificāre, meaning “to build.” Over time, its meaning evolved in English to symbolize moral or intellectual improvement—perfect for a word game designed to challenge and uplift your mind.
Recent Wordle History:
- June 5: DATUM
- June 4: CEASE
- June 3: ADMIN
- June 2: PREEN
- June 1: ROUGH
If today’s game left you reeling, don’t worry—you’re not alone. Whether you nailed it or flopped hard, the fun lies in showing up and testing your brain. And with the weekend upon us, there’s more Wordle goodness just around the corner.
Don’t forget to share your scores (and frustrations) with fellow players online—and if you’re up for it, track your streaks and see where you stand in the growing Competitive Wordle scene. Tomorrow’s puzzle might be your redemption moment.
